Have scoured the forum (and even asked this question on my first post) for advice with a first SCMS - only now am I ready to purchase.
I am now totally confused on specs. and best buy for my limited budget of £250. I suppose it would help to define precisely what I want to do with it - in the first instance a couple of simple jobs - cutting laminate flooring and building a couple of wooden decks - for which I guess that virtually any chop saw would suffice. As to future projects I am unsure of where my interest may take me.
Currently I am thinking of either Ryobi or DeWalt with the following specs:
DeWalt 707...........................Ryobi EMS 2026SCL
1200 Watts..........................2000 watts.....Power Input
6700 rpm.............................4500 rpm .....Blade Speed
216 mm...............................254mm .....Blade Diameter
48 °.....................................? .....Bevel Capacity
50/50 ° ...............................? ..... Mitre Capacity [right/left]
60 mm................................90mm .....Max. Depth of Cut
190x60 mm.........................215 x 90 .....Cutting Capacity at 45°/90°
270x48 mm.........................305 x 42 .....Cutting Capacity at 90°/45°
270x60 mm.........................305 x 90 .....Cutting Capacity at 90°/90°
190x48 mm.........................215 x 42 .....Max. Cutting Capacity at 45°/45°[/b]
I suspect that I may be getting a little too carried away looking at specifications. On the one hand the Ryobi seems to score larger capacity motor and cutting capability. On the other the name DeWalt - is this a much better machine - accuracy, repeatability, etc? I was once told "If you are going to have one have a big un"
Both units are available including stand within my budget.
So I would appreciate any comments, suggestions etc. (including any alternatives that sit within budget).
Thanks in advance
Tony
