Hi,
I'm considering splashig out on the Leigh D1600 dovetail jig. Can anyone tell me if my 1/4" Trend T5 router fitted with an 8mm collet would be up to job, or would I be better of using a heavier 1/2" machine.

Cheers.

Hi Fras

I'm not sure about the power of the T5, but I use the DW621 with an 8mm collet and it's fine.

If you buy their package, it's under 300 and includes seven bits with the dust port.

Cheers
Neil

Fras,

I've only ever used my Leigh with a 1/2" router but would inagine if your jointing thinish stock a 1/4" would probably do the job.

Fras,

I bought my Leigh dovetail jig from Brimarc at a show. When I told Keith I woul dbe using it with a Trend T9, and was that OK, he said that was a bit of an overkill, as most people use a smaller router with them, so I would guess that your T5 would be fine.

Why not give Brimarc a ring - they are usually very helpful.

In fairness to them you should be prepared to consider buying the jig from them.

Regards

Gary

That will be fine.

I used my Trend T5 on my D4 jig for a couple of years until i got a porter cable 1/2" router.

To be honest, i still use the T5 alongside the PC with one cutter in each.

You'll be fine with it

Hi there,
Thanks to all for the feedback. I've just returned from the woodworking show at the SECC and I am now the proud owner of one Leigh dovetail jig. I bought from Brimarc and the assistant backed up what Gary said in his reply that my trend should be up to the job. I'll give it a go anyway and if it's not then I'll have an excuse to splash out more on some new gear.(as long as the wife doesn't find out how much it's costing)

Cheers,
Fraser.
