You could try fibreglass resin. Flexible to an extent, sticks like the proverbial and easily coloured and finished.

Polyester resin *is* a fiberglass resin?

The stuff I buy ("roofing resin" mentioned above) is certainly described as such?

Although poxy resin is also used with fiberglass.

I used epoxy to infill lettering with black wood dye from Axminster.

The only thing I would mention is the drying time was a good few days before it was hard enough to sand flat.

That's something else to consider: some additives will retard curing times...

I've just made a sign, which after routing ,I primed then sprayed with black gloss. A pass through my thicknesser left a well defined sign ready for a varnish finish.

Yep, I made one for a customer a while back. I did a couple to test the spacing etc. It's just free hand routed, but worked well. I sprayed them, then belt sanded the top off

For those I printed the name off onto a4 and taped it in place while I routed....
