Well to be honest I wouldn't use either dovetails or box joints in ply. Waste of time and effort. I'd use a rebate. :wink: Maybe pinned, but with modern glues that's really probably overkill. Or maybe a rebate and groove combination? Depends on the tools available.

Sorry, I was running away from the precise terms of the original query a little*, and meaning that - across the board (ho ho) - I wouldn't bother hand cutting box joints at all. Always consider them designed for machines, and one of the joints machines do a lot better too.

Here's some pics of my tool cabinet made in ply with bizarre DTs. I do agree that they look a little odd and if you do attempt to do likewise than a good quality birch ply is a must (no voids and even thickness plys)

Building this (the DTs are on the back as well) gave me a lot of confidence and the next one will in "real" wood.
