Hello all, I have an old Bosch drill which has served me well but recently tried to drill some 4cm diameter flat bottomed holes with a forstner bit and it ended up a whole lot of smoke and hassle. The guy at the tool shop said I'd really need a pillar drill. Is it possible to get a decent one for £150 or would I be better off getting a good quality drill and a drill stand. All advice greatly appreciated as always, cheers

I use the Record drill stand and can't fault it. Think I spent £50 on it which, compared to all the other really poor drill stands is remarkably good value. I'd have spent £100 ish on it by comparison.

I've had a Record drill stand for several years and been very pleased with it. It's very solid and I reckon it's one of the best if you decide to go for a drill stand/drill combination.

Cheers

I use a small bench mounted drill stand similar to the one from Axminster, costs about £50 or so, adequate for what I want tho' I do sometimes wish I hade a larger capacity on the drill for bigger jobs - Rob

SWMBO bought me this floorstander for Christmas (although it was £110 then) and I'm very impressed with it - I had the small Axminster White one already but I was continually frustrated with its lack of capacity - its only suitable for metalworking really.

Cheers,
Neil
