Hi,

I've done a few small bits of messing about on the scroll saw since I got it. I find it fun but can't help but think the blade is making it harder on me. Where can I get a decent number of blades fairly cheap? I've got a Hegner Multicut 1. I've seen the ones on the hegner website but they seem expensive compared to the ones on ebay.

I'm cutting sycamore which is roughly 0.5 - 1 cm thick. So far I've tried cutting some letters and numbers. Also tried a flower and a car. All pieces are a maximum of 5 inches in size with fairly simple shapes. I've got no idea what size blade I've got in at the moment. It does straight cutting very well so I imagine it's better suited to that (or it could be that I'm rubbish at scroll sawing).

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave -

I believe sycamore is quite oily? Perhaps you would be better off with a skip tooth blade which has more space to let the sawdust fall clear instead of clogging the teeth.

I like Flying Dutchman blades from Mike's Workshop in the USA. http://www.mikesworkshop.com/

You can get an assortment pack from Mike for $16 with five different blade types which will cover most jobs and let you find what you personally like best. Even though you would have to add postage into the equation I think it's a good deal if you need to find the type of blade best suited to your work.

Although not a top flight blade, the Niqua "yellow label" blades from Hobbies of Dereham are a step up from what you get at the Borg superstores. Hobbies are also stocking a limited range of Pegas blades now, also worth a look.

Ultimately, buying by the gross is the way to bring the price down...
