Which blade for ripping?

Hello

I have noticed when ripping lengths of timber, particularly hardwood, the Triton can seem to strain a bit. So I was thinking about fitting a new blade for ripping. Thing is i'm not quite sure what sort of blade I need? Could the forum recommend a product ?

I would go with a 20-24 tooth freud. I used one as well as a festool ripping blade for going through 2" beech and they ripped through them like butter.

I'll second that. The one you saw in action ( :-$ ) at my place Monday was a 24T Freud thin kerf. I'm sure it would be fine in a hand held. Got it from Higgins in Sidcup for a very reasonable price - a very rare thing :roll:

Wizer , the triton has an unusual arbour size, Triton do a ripping blade but never needed it myself, your triton must be coming up 5 years so perhaps other maintenance is needed.
You could always cut a 1" rip and then the other 1" if you have some dense timber, its so easy with the triton. The splitter just unclips and my riving knive was always just lower than the highest tooth.

For some reason I discounted the Triton blades. I think the saw diam is 235mm arbour size is 16mm or 25mm? I looked up Frued blades and the closest they so is 190mm diam with 16mm bore. Will that do for ripping?

You are probably right, the current blade could probably do with a sharpen. But a dedicated rip blade would be nice.

The timber I need to rip is only 19mm so shouldn't be too tough.

a cheap ANYTHING in george higgins is a blue moon occurance

but seeing as they are closed at night............................

higgins' stuff is marked at full list price (or at screwfix prices) and the trade discount is woeful




i use toucan tools in leyton, they mark their stuff at realistic street prices


however toucan tools are more carpentry based rather than cabinet work

The Triton saw has a 16 mm arbour. If you can't find a 235 mm blade with that bore, get a 30 mm bore and use a reducing bush. They are only a couple of pounds from the likes of Axminster. Wealdenblades are good, not particularly cheap but good.
