Patina seems to have disappeared from "Screwfix". Anyone got another source or an alternative product other than plain Danish Oil?

Hmm, yes I'd like to know too. I haven't used it in a couple of years but now I know I can't get it I really want some - er, Patina that is

I went onto the Patina Website and emailed them to find out whether there is a UK stockist, This is the reply I received.

"Dear Roger, I do not have anyone selling Patina in the UK. I would be glad to send you an order, I can send it by mail, which is quite a bit cheaper than by Fed Ex. Let me hear and thank you for the inquiry. Virginia from Patina"

Before placing an order I was wondering whether there is sufficient interest here to make a bulk order worth while?

Haven't used Patina before so not sure what it's like ?

Is it just a coloured wax ?

Cheers, Paul. :D

How much constitutes a bulk order,Roger? I'd be up for a few tins (say 5 or 6) on your order if it works out significantly cheaper, did they give you any idea of price? Sadly I suspect the shipping from Devon to me is likely to wipe out any advantage. Any chance you could post the link with their contact details (as I'll probably order direct)?

Thanks
Mark

Don't rush into anything Roger! i followed your link, but on reading through I don't think their stuff is the same as the one we remember from Screwfix as it is described as a 2 part finish and sold by the pint/quart etc.
The one I used to use was an amber gel one part finish made by Langlows. I'm going to have a good root around in the workshop tomorrow (..er make that later today) to see if I've got an old tin left somewhere - I know it had an address on the back - I'll let you know.

Hi Mark

Luckily, I have a few tins as a result of increasing a SFX order to take me into the free carriage zone.

If you don't find a tin, I'll have a look tonight for contact details.

Cheers
Neil

Whoops! Thanks Mark - not taken any action yet.

OK- sleuthing results follow.

I phoned SFX this morning who gave me the manufacturers name: Palace Chemicals ( in Speke, Liverpool). It's still on their website here so I phoned them to see where my nearest stockist is. A chat with their rep revealed my local retailer is none other then Brewers who have branches all over the South (store locator on website). You may have to ask them to get it in from a main branch but they're all networked up so shouldn't be a hassle. The rep also said the reason SFx didn't do it anymore was probably to do with posting hazardous materials (it contains turpentine) but that for people having real problems getting it he'll put it in a jiffy bag marked "furniture polish". I didn't ask his permission so I won't post his number, just phone Palace chemicals and they'll put you in touch if this applies to you.

Those who don't know what it is here's a bit from the tech sheet on theis website:

DESCRIPTION:
PATINA is a complex blend of natural oils, specialist resins and surface enhancing additives designed for use on all types of interior soft and
hardwood timber structures and furniture, such as doors, window frames, skirting boards, dado rails, stair-rails, natural wood flooring, tables,
chairs and most other fine timber fixtures and fittings found within a domestic property. PATINA’S unique gel-like structure allows the
applicator to achieve a penetrating and consistent finish on all types of timber surface, be it smooth veneer or a carved decorative stair rail.
PATINA improves appearance, refreshes the natural wood colour and enhances the original grain structure of the timber returning it’s “as new”
appearance. Unlike conventional wax and varnish type coatings, PATINA does not soak in to, or seals the timber surface. Rather it binds to
the outer grain structure, forming a smooth even, water shedding outer layer, allowing the wood to breathe naturally whilst still performing as a
protective and decorative finish. The effect of this action is to provide greater protection against damage to appearance from liquid spills, or
when the surface is exposed to hot cups or plates etc.

Hmm.. should be a bit easier than getting it from Screwfix even.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark - that's brilliant. Thanks for your help. I've phoned my nearest "Brewers" who are getting some 350gm tins in the next 4 working days. What could be easier.
