In Germany for a few days, I think I’d be hard pushed to find softwood of this sort of quality in the UK

Not to mention leaving it in the street and not finding it covered in graffiti / on fire / in someone’s garden.

Thats because they do not accept shieeete which then gets dumped in the UK at an extortionate price! If we stood our ground and refused to buy shiete then we would get better quality.

It looks like Douglas Fir to me, which is available in the UK

I can get dug fir but it's fresh off the saw mill . Lovely grain

You can buy top quality pine (redwood), pitch pine, columbian pine (douglas fir) from the right timber merchant. Not from B&Q or average builders merchant. You have to look around.

Looks good. Fairly new - don't know how it would weather but it has the classic essential outside furniture detail of no wood-on-wood contact, hence avoiding water traps.

The beauty of Douglas Fir. Nice but a good mask is a must when maching, for me on a par to Iroko as to hitting the nasal system!
