When is a door not a door?

When it's a book case.
This is something I did about 3 years ago but thought you would like to see it. It's a cheap £20 door with trim stuck to the inside , which is the office, and false books made of resin on the living room side. The books cost a lot of money but I think they are worth it.

I can't see a handle on the living room side - how you you get out or in??? :wink:

If you look on the first picture you can see there is is a big brass knob to get out and in the middle of the door frame there is a roller catch to keep the door closed. To open it from the living room you just push...

That's exactly what I intend to try and do in our new house when we move in. I want either a tipping book or maybe somehow pull down one arm of the wall light next to the doorway and have it unlock the catch.

Not entirely sure where to start with it though....

Brilliant work, the resin books are a good idea but very expensive.

How about using old second hand books. (very cheap, car boot sales and fete's books).

Use the fence on the table saw and cut all the books down to 2 inches from the spine. Glued the sides together with wood glue and glued these to the shelves.

Just another idea.
