When did Plywood first Appear?

I have been trying to date a Country style kitchen pine table which was bought as "old" in the 60's.
It's got typical turned legs, pine board top and a half blind dovetailed drawer with wooden turned knob - all good so far?
But then it has a plywood drawer bottom?
I supposed this could be a replacement but made me wonder when plywood came about?

I don't know......interesting question! Lets push it back to WW2, where it was obviously used in a number of aircraft. So, my opener for 10.......a minimum of 65 or 70 years.

According to WIKI, plywood may have been invented in the 19th century but I've not found any more detail in a brief online search.

Victorian cabinet makers used to make there own plywood by laminating veneer at 90 degrees to each other. They used it for fine fretwork on cabinetry.
