What's this tool called?

Hi there - I need to buy what I believed to be called a bench motor until I tried to find one online. They are certainly called that in the good ol' US of A. I need a motor with adjustable speed to which I can attach a chuck for use with a drill bit, sanding disc or buffing wheels. I can find buffing motors online but they all seem to have spindles with no way of attaching a chuck as far as I can tell. Apologies for the simplicity of this question but I'm just getting into pipe making and have very little idea of the technical aspect as regards the tools!

Not sure if you could do the adjustable speed with it. Bench grinder with drill chuck throws up quite a few pictures.

Would a ordinary adjustable speed drill in a mount do the job ? Black and decker use to make such a thing- always see them at bootys and the local tip

Could you use a lathe headstock? throw the rest away if you have to. (PS I just by chance happen to have one in the for sale section)

just buy a small lathe simples

Buy a cheap/ second hand lathe and adapt it
