Hi All,

I have been asked by my Grandfather to sell his Myford lathe and tools as he is unfortunatly unable to use them through illness. Unfortunatly neither of us know what it is worth?

I am assuming that there will be a model number on it somewhere but as yet I have been unable to find it.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Lee

Lee,

If you post your GF home town, maybe someone local who looks here will be able to advise.

Welcome to the forum Lee, sorry it is for such a reason.

If by any chance you can post a picture of the machine and tools it would be a help in giving a guide.

If you do not have or want to start a hosting site for a picture e-mail or PM me for address to send it to for inclusion in this thread until sorted.

For the basic ML8, in working order, the going rate seems to be about £200. Then add on some for any accessories. (That's chucks, chisels etc - the ML8 also had a planer, circular saw and disk sander attachements, which are probably not worth a great deal except as curiosities)
For the newer Mystro, I probably paid over the odds for mine recently at £400, as there was another on Ebay a month or so later that only made £315 :(

Hi, saw this with interest, a friend at work knows I'm into woodworking and asked me if I wanted anything from her Mum's garage clearance - her Dad used to make various bits and pieces and sell them for charity, but he died earlier this year.

She sent me a vague-ish list of things and on there was a Myford ML7 lathe with extension table and Myford Picador 6". I know nothing about lathes but a quick bit of research suggests that the ML7 is worth quite a bit.

Apparently her Mum is looking to get rid of it quickly and lives in London. So first question is, does anyone here interested in these lathes and second question is, do you know of any second hand machinery companies that might be interested?

Cheers

Damian

Excellent thank you for the replies!!

I will get some pictures taken this evening. The lathe must be 20 years old I would imagine but has seen no use over the past 10+ with only 'hobby' use before that when he retired.

The lathe has chucks and the sanding wheel attachement :)

Pictures really would help, if you can manage it.

Mornin' Lee.

Assuming you have a account with Photobucket, go to a old "Post" of mine it should help you.

Most other hosting sites have a similar set up.

Temp hosting for Lee.

I think I'd stay with my previous quote of around £200 for the ML8 - that's what they seem to go for on the 'bay and in local newspapers.
They are beautifully made machines, from the days when Myford used to make up the odd batch from time to time, in between their main metalworking stuff. BUT, they have a number or disadvantages. The tubular bed tends to fill up with shavings, which makes moving the rest difficult, and for those with small workshops, having to have space to get at the outboard bowl-turning area can be a killer (it's what stopped me getting one). Also, of course, you have to have left hand threaded chucks for the outboard end, or at least two sets of inserts.
But I can imagine your dad really loved it!
