My local timber yard had this length of wood, hidden away the last time I visited, this time I decided to buy it, as I really love the grain.

Can you guess what it is

At first glance I thought it was Burr Ash then Cats Paw Oak but I think I am wrong on both guesses, is it a soft wood?

Yes it is --- Now look at the picture below - I think you'll be surprised and the 1st person to get it right - I will post a 300mm x 190mm section to them, for free. It may need a little sanding :) and I will send you part of the really swirly section.

That non burry section looks like regular, common or garden construction grade pine??

Your a Winner =D> =D>

Pm your address and I will post a section out to you.. FOC as promised.

I couldn't believe it was pine when I first looked at it a few weeks back... Be interesting to see how it comes out..

No worries Bob, gonna have to think what to make from it, I make mostly name plaques at present, so might make one a couple from it.

But its to nice just to make name and letters, so will keep it safe until I start on doing proper fretwork...
