that's interesting. I was thinking the other way around. I guess it helps if the knife isn't quite lined up. I know occasionally my riving knife isn't dead straight as the blade guard is on the top and adds weight so i sometimes have to slightly nudge it to get it into the kerf.The original Startrite riving knives have a faceted front edge on them, bringing the very front to almost a sharpish edge.
You can just see it when you zoom in on those two knives in my first picture.....
