I was looking into this same sort of question, similar budget etc.

I was very tempted by a Trend T11 which was slightly over budget at c£299. I looked through various review websites and through the forum here and think that I am going to go for a Freud FT3000 instead- there seems to be some good writeups of this, and for £150 a decent saving on the Trend. I should state that I am intending it predominantly for table use, and for putting on my Leigh jig.. Freud do not seem to be particularly common over here, but in the USA they are a big brand.

HTH.

Not sure about the price but the De Walt 625 is a good router for table use or hand held. I have a Hitachi in my table well one of them and the Freud in another both are good machines but I am on my second Hitachi as the electronics have gone in the first one. I have never used one but the makita does get a good reviews as does the Trend T11. HTH.

I'd recommend the MAKITA RP2301FCX, can be had for £270. I've got one and love it. Powerful, easy to use, very controllable, good worklight & good dust extraction.

How does this compare to the Makita 3612C?

I've never used the 3612C, so I can't say first-hand. But from the specs the RP2301FCX has these over the 3612C, plus it's slightly more powerful:

- Ergonomic Grips
- Continuous speed control
- New Fence - Fine Micro Adjustment
- Lock-on Facility (for inverted routing)
- Twin LED Job Light with Afterglow
- Adjustable lever - easy to set depth on table
- Increased plunge depth (70mm instead of 60mm)

I think it's basically the newer model. So features have been updated and improved. So you'd be paying about £50 for the new model, as opposed to the old one.

Cheers _Dan. :)

+1 - the electronic brake is fantastic

-ridiculously fast isn't it, I've not timed it, but it seems like it's a few seconds. The best router I've ever used. _Dan.

Ive thought about buying this router too (MAKITA RP2301FCX)but when i phoned for information they said it comes without a box! Thats quite important for me and im not sure the ones you can by separatly come with all the foam cut out for a router. What have you done for a box or did you get one with yours?

This is the one I've got but I paid £249 for it at the time! I find that although it's big, it's very easy to handle and relatively light for handheld use.

I'm looking for a replacement router as well, and did consider the 625, but for me, it's waaaay too heavy for hand held use, so I'll probably go for the smaller and lighter 621 - Rob

I have just got the DW 621k and it's been great so far. Dust extraction is fantastic too. also comes in a 1/2" version - the 622 I think it is.

I have recently bought a DW625 and a Trend TR11. Go for the DW. My old Elu 177e is less powerful but better.

Daniel, If you want a DW625, then mine is up for grabs. I'm selling it as I've now got the Makita to replace it. It's got the Trend Router Table Insert Plate as well. I want to sell them together ideally. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you some images and a price.

Cheers _Dan. :)

I'll flog the DW625 & Trend RTI Plate to you for £200 posted if you are interested? (providing you are on UK mainland)

I've just had a look at the specs for the 622 and it looks like a more useful router than the smaller 621. A little heavier, but the ability to fit half inch router bits makes it better for me - Rob

Seeing as the OP hasn't been on this thread for a while I'm inclined to withdraw the router offer & put it in the 'For-Sale' section. - Need the cash asap :D

Cheers _Dan.
