Sorry to here that , but that is the draw back with Chiwanese imports , built to a price not a standard

It's not that bad to be fair, its just the little bits like the handles that lock the top part of the tool rest and shaft in the tailstock, they just round off inside after a little bit of use rendering them useless. Not that thats a huge deal to sort them out but decent ones would add maybe a quid to the overall price. Most annoying though is the lack of toolrest extension which means it cant turn stuff as wide as it claims in the sales blurb, the cheeky pippers even have one illustrated in the manual.(whine over  )

As for a better lathe, I really want(need) to upgrade but pregnant Mrs JT wouldn't be too impressed if I got myself more 'toys' and didn't spend my dwindling money supply on fancy prams etc instead

Hi all,

My current lathe does most of what I need:

To upgrade I would need:

1) Bigger swing (more than 14")
2) Electronic Variable Speed
3) Longer bed (more than 1m)
4) More power than 1Hp

The only lathe (I've found) that matches these requirments is the Wivamac 1200 with its 22" swing, variable speed, 2 or 3 Hp and 1200mm between centres.

One day!!!........

Cheers,

Richard
