Hi yall.

Yesterday at my local car-boot sale I picked up a Stanley #220 block plane, without an iron, made in the USA.

Would someone please inform me what size iron I need to get, and where from.

Hi Gary,

It's probably similar in dimensions to the Record #0220. If so, that had a 1-5/8" wide cutter, the same as the #09.5 so they are probably readily available

Phone mike Hancock at classic H T for Hock blades,

Or check L-N site for replacement blades

Or Phone Ray Iles

Thank you both for your help and advice.

Paul. I did think that 1 5/8" was the size. I just wanted to make sure before buying one.

I take it the length is standard?

Hi Gary,

I was taking the size from my copy of "Planecraft" which gives the blade widths but not lengths. I don't think the length is crucial, but on some modern block planes they have altered slightly the shape of the grooves on the blades where the blade adjuster mechanism fits. Best to check with someone like Mike Hancock, as David suggested, before parting with your money
