Hi guys,

I have had this piece of log for the last couple of years, I bought it cos I liked it and I thought I would get a bright idea some day. Any ideas would be appreciated and I will post a pic when I have done it. Cheers!

It's approx 30" x 17" x 1"

Coffee table top?
on that 1st picture, square off the left side and have it as a top for a bathroom/ensuite unit with a nice glass bowl sink mounted on it.

You could put it by your gate as a warning to other trees....

Cheers for the replies, I have consulted the wife and its gonna be a shelf. Unless anyone has a better idea? Going on the saw at 6pm.....

when you trim that edge square send me some offcuts to make pens with ha ha

need about 15mm square and in pieces about 150mm long.

well ya never get if you never ask

Sorry, I have nothing constructive to add to this thread, but that made me laugh. And Gods know I needed that today, thanks marcus.

I think the best ideas have been suggested above, shelf, vanity or coffee table top or something of that ilk. Certainly a beautiful piece of wood.

Wouldn't you be losing the 'best' view of the grain if it was made into a shelf?

If you were prepared to cut for a number of smaller projects, then maybe the area with the hole (after enlarging but keeping its natural shape) could be turned into a picture frame?

Looks like a bulls head this way around, anyone got any more ideas? (Much appreciated), Decided against a shelf, think it could be more.

Hi,
For what it's worth, here'a a couple of images of a coffee table I made using a similar piece of elm, to give you an idea what it might look like as a table. Not so sure I would do the legs the same way again, but it looks OK.
