What do you recommend for a waterproof coat or jacket .I am looking for a light jacket 100 percent waterproof so what do you recommend ?The old barbour fishing jacket i find to heavy ALAN

I'm not sure what your budget is?
But I have a North Face Goretex Jacket and it is indeed water (and wind) proof.

If you want the country look I've got a Musto version of the barbour; not cheap but light in comparison and very waterproof. Otherwise Musto HPX offshore but that might be a touch ott.

I'm outdoors in all weathers and I'm yet to find a jacket that is 100% waterproof. I have owned expensive coats from Barbour, Le Chameau and now a stupidly expensive Durburry that's the closest to 100% that I've ever found however it's anything but light. Bit nice for fishing, at least it is if you get in the same mess I used to. I had a Regatta which was very light and supposedly waterproof however it was too small so never got a thorough testing. The North Face are good but will let in if it rains heavy enough for long enough. Carharrt coats are popular with some of the people I work with. I have one which I've not had long. Much lighter than the Durburry, not as warm but not had a proper test in wet weather. I covered an event with two ladies who started the day smugly in their matching expensive Musto coats and watched as they changed colour as they took on more and more water. They had three changes of coat and still ended up soaked to the skin. It was a very wet day though.

I bought overtrousers and jacket with hood from Blacks to outdoor suppliers. Forget the name but wore it recently in the pouring rain to jetwash our patio. Completly waterproof and lightweight.

I sit down in our woodland for hours in one of these suits and tried many brands that claim to be waterproof but so far this is the first that is and it gets snagged on trees etc.http://www.gunmart.net/clothing-footwea ... t-trousers
One of the main problems for most of these jackets is they make ya sweat if your sat about, the thin gortex walking coats are breathable so not really a problem but they sometimes leak in downpours.
For winter I have a survival suit for when i spend nights down in the hide (photography) its lovely and warm but only in VERY cold weather plus its waterproof and neoprene lined (used by lifeboat crews)
