Hi guys,

I have just finished a conservatory and with the wind and rain water is getting under the flashing dressed over the glass at the top. (its a lean to design) What does anyone suggest that i do, thinking of a bed of silocone between the flashing and glass? or some kind of sticky sided seal?

many thanks

Was the ridge sealed to the wall with silicone? Before the lead went on?
Be careful using silicone on the lead - it needs to be neutral cure or else it will react with the lead.

There is a sealer made that is specifically designed to stick lead that might be better - I can't remember the name, but it shouldn't be hard to find.

Yes, you can get lead sealant, but it is basically just grey neutral cure silicone.

Cheers guys, the guys that did it chased the lead into the wall, sealed it with mastic then pointed around it. The glass its on a wood frame, basically rafters from a wall plate. The problem with mastic or sealant is you will be able to see it from inside the conservatory, because it will be on the glass, unless it is a very neat job. They have done a neat job but the problem is capillary action between the glass and lead driving it up.

Lead seal or leadmate, which is a lead grey colour neutral cure silicone.

Toolstation sell it part no 55908.

If the glass is self clean, special silicone is recommended. Lead seal is ok but may not adhere as well and be very careful to avoid smearing over the glass below the lead, or it will show up for a long time and cleaning it off with white spirit will work it into the coating

All the conservatories I've built (100's!) have a cap on the wall plate which seals down to the glass and also sealed to the wall. It should really be water tight without the lead at all.

I had leaks in last winters gales with water driving under the flashing on my tiled roofed extension ( been ok for 20yrs). Builder extended it by placing a wider strip underneath - been OK so far?

Rod

Or instead of trying to form a perfect seal, try an anti-capillary groove to limit the travel of moisture?
