Time to change blades thinks I so off I trot to the internet and purchase for myself a nice freud 305 mm blade.

In the process of fitting I'm aligning the riving knife with the blade when the straightedge appears to show a 'concave' blade. Change the straightedge and still the same result, concave one side and convex the other.

With much swearing and cussing I remove said blade and compare with old blade. Putting straightedge across new blade when removed from saw shows no discernable 'warp'!

I'm not overtightening but I can't understand why this should be happening.

I haven't run the saw with the new blade and don't intend to until I can least understand what's happening. I'm pretty sure any attempt to cut anything would result in a bind and possible kickback so pretty concerned.

Anyone got any ideas what might be happening?!

Is it possible for you to swap the thrust washers around on the spindle and see if it is curved the same way or other way round ,to see if there is a problem with them,if so it may be possible to have the washers faced up by someone with a metal lathe etc

The blade must be bolted to a flat surface but the retaining washer should have a raised outer edge that should be against the blade

Try putting the old blade in the saw then seeing if that appears warped once in situ. Also check the straight edges against each other.

I put the old blade back and it was fine, put the new blade on and that was fine as well!

Took it off a couple of times, even turned it round the wrong way and checked and no problems.

Straight edge is an engineering one so I've no concerns about that.

I have absolutely no idea what the issue was but there was a definite 'dish' to the blade (at least 0.75 mm and maybe more).

Runs OK and cuts fine so I'll crack on but make a few checks over the next couple of days.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Rub some chalk or crayon on both sides of your "warped" blade and make a cut, if it is being wiped off your convex side then the blade should go back.
