OK, not really woodworking, but I don't know where else to ask.
Just been down to my tennis club to find the guest fees box has been ripped off the wall. It was a fairly Heath Robinson wooden box, and the back(which is screwed to the wall via wall pugs) was fixed to the sides with four woodscrews, about 5mm of which went into the sides, from what i can see, so I doubt that it took more than a casual kick to release it.
This box was mounted on the wall, in the lobby of our clubhouse(which, sadly, is sometimes left unlocked accidentally).
Anyway, long story short, I need to find(or possible make) a replacement. It should never have a vast amount of money in it, so it's not worth going overboard, but I don't seem to be able to find anything suitable. The closest I've come so far is lockable outside mailboxes, but these are too big, and the slots tend to be so big as to allow fishing attempts. We only need to be able to take the odd folded or rolled up fiver or a handful of pound coins.
Any helpful suggestions appreciated.

Could you possibly pop rivit a plate to reduce the size of the slot.Could whatever box you decide on be inset into the wall, maybe you might think of a dummy cctv camera and a few "you are being watched" stickers as a extra detterent.

How about a small metal cash box screwed to the wall. Probably about £10. You would just need to cut a small slot.

My local Market Garden started sellung their seasonal produce using an "honesty box" system and it wasn't long before somebody stole the box and contents.

They've now got a steel box fixed to the wall with bolts. It's about 8 to 10" wide and 3 or 4 inches deep, with an angled plate over the slot to prevent "fishing" and it's about 18" in height.

If it ever stops raining I can ask where they got it from if you like.

Yes that's the same way I would do it.
4 off 8mm coach screws and plugs from the inside fixing the box to the wall.
Inside the box I would have an angled plate with about 1/3rd of the box height space left at the bottom.
Coins and notes would be pushed through the slot at the top hit the angle plate and slide down, bounce off the side of the box and rest at the bottom under the angle plate which should make it very difficult for someone to try and fish out.

A search for Petty Cash Box turned up the following:- Cash Box

Drill 2 or 4 holes in the base of the tin and screw it to the wall using round head screws going through penny washers to give it more strength.
