Good afternoon all

After a sluggish performance I realised 2 out of 3 of the belts had perished on my Wadkin AGS, I bought what I thought were the correct replacements (22.5” v belts from bearing boys) but on trying to fit there’s no way the motor plate is aligning with the 4 bolt holes as the belts seem way too tight!

Any wadkin gurus out there that can shed some light? It’s an AGS 10 59522 if that’s any help.

Many thanks, Ezra

Wrap a piece of string around the old belt.

Wrap the same string around the same place on the new belt. The amount by which it overlaps is the increment in belt length that you need to purchase (i.e. if it overlaps 2", you need a 24.5" belt).

You do not need to know the actual length of the string nor the official place where a belt's length is determined so long as you _compare_ the same length on the two items.

@ChaiLatte thanks for that solution, I didn’t want to initially go with the measurement of the one that came off as I wasn’t sure how much it had stretched over the years.

If I’m measuring to order is there any merit in measuring between the pulleys with string rather than around the belts?

Your "V" belt supplier should be able to help if you give them the outside diameter of each pulley and the distance between their centres.
Position the motor on the mounting plate slots in the appropriate position first.
The calculator is available online as well.
Cheers ,Andy

It would be much better to actually calculate the length! - If you can measure the distance between the centres along with the diameters of each pully - taking account of exactly where the belt 'sits' - it's a very simple calculation. If you don't have the mathematical knowledge then by all means post the figures and I can very quickly provide a solution.

Look for SPZ 607. That’s what I believe is used on the old Wadkin AGS10’s ie with two bars the fence rides on.

You would also need to tell them what type of belt it is. And 'vee belt' is not a sufficient answer to that question as there are different section types. The number given above (SPZ 607) is for a Z-section.

Sorry, I thought that was already established as they were after the correct length not type.
