Hi all, we have just completed a whistle stop tour of New Zealand and wanted to recommend a couple of interesting places to visit in South Island for those interested in woodwork.
1. The centre for fine woodworking. Near Nelson. Not knowing what to expect, we called in and were made very welcome and shown around all the high end advanced projects being undertaken by the “students” attending the workshops. Everyone was very friendly and the individual works of art being created in wood were breathtaking.
2. The Lynn museum of woodwork. Near Ashburton. A Mecca for those interested in ornamental turning lathes by holtzapffel, evans etc. where else will you see a rose engine lathe and about 10 more OT lathes in one place? There are lots of rare planes, saws and other hand woodworking tools etc as well.
Hope this is of interest
