It appears virgin do now have a capped broadband rate 30gbs. Back in May this year I complained about a virgin increase and they fitted me up with a 20gb speed but never told me I had a capped account. They covered it up by putting 20 fibre 30gbs data at £31 per month and unlimited telephone calls to the contract.

But they automatically charge me £7.95 extra if I exceed also never mentioned.

So anyone got any recommendations to compete please.

The only truly unlimited broadband I have found is BT Infinity; most if not all of the other big names limit your downloads. Just don't put a lot of faith in the worse than uselss Home hub 5 they'll give you, you'll need a decent router to get the best out of it, especially on wifi

You could look into business contracts. I know the headline price is higher but I have a Virgin media bundle which provides truly unlimited broadband and all inclusive calls to anywhere in the world at any time of the day. The customer service is also second to none.
I have been with them for many years now and whilst I check around each year I have yet to find a reason to change provider.
My experience has been one of no hidden costs or nasty surprises and when there is occasionally a problem (a dug up cable - by me :( ) they came and sorted it at no charge within a few hours.

I am sure the other providers have similar deals. It could be worth a look.

I have Virgin 100 Mbps, it's not capped and always tests at 100+. It's not cheap but you do get what you pay for.

For my sins I'm with EE (have been since freeserve days) and that's always been unlimited, - with 3 teenagers in the house it needed to be!

I've rarely had issues that needed their fairly appalling customer services.

I get 'free' calls, unlimited broadband and line rental for £20 per month.
