I am thinking of buying a vibrating plate exercise machine purely to lose weight. I cannot do physical exercises due to a disability. I was wondering if anyone had one and if so was it effective.

They were a fad about 2 years ago and alot of gyms installed them, but primarily as 'toning' machines for already lean people or for rehabilitation after injury - this latter is the reason my gym installed two, as they also have a physio on site. He specifically told anyone who asked they were for rehab and not weight loss.
Depending on your disability, swimming is generally considered the least stressful exercise since the water supports your body, but I realise swimming is not everyone's cup of tea. Walking can also be gentle exercise, but again depends on disability. A chat with your GP would be the best bet, they can then advise you as to what is suitable and probably put you in touch with someone who can help and advise more specifically. The NHS is very keen on this 'self help' approach at the moment, as it prevents worse (and more expensive) problems later on
