Verschoyle patent Mandrel wood lathe. Collect or use £100
This is a later design probably from 1920s designed for use with a motor rather than hand cranked. It is similar to the Picador Pup and other compact multi purpose machines m. There’s a detailed write up and some excellent diagrams on Tony Griffiths lathes website in the machine tool archive
Like many other modest lathes aimed at the amateur market and intended to become 'all things to all men', the 1920s to 1930s Verschoyle was available with a wide range of accessories to permit sawing, hand turning of wood and soft metals, spinning, grind, polishing, drilling and eccentric turning. It was designed (by William Denham Verschoyle, 1868-1944) to be fastened to the edge of any convenient bench or work top.
Photos show it set up using 2 of the 3 base bars but it’s possible using a longer plank to turn very long spindles/ cues etc multiple rests can be set up
Accessories are shown in the pic including the spinning tools, steadies and rests. The machine can be disassembled and quickly stored if not used very often
A very interesting machine for use or collection which can be posted (without the plank!) for little expense.
