In a moment of weakness, I've just ordered a Veritas 5 1/4 Bench Plane with A2 iron. I've been following the various threads debating the merits of the various makes and types and in the end it was the adjustable frog on the Veritas that clinched it. I have a few inexpensive planes plus an old Stanley N0.4 that I've fitted an Iles repl. iron. It's only over the last 6 months that I've been learning to use a sharp and adjusted plane (to the extent of my limited abilities) and I'm enjoying the experience so I'm expecting great things from the 'Real' thing. Hope I've made the right choice!
