Thought of another design.

So machined up these strips in maple and sapelle.

Cut some more diagonal blocks (slightly thinner than strips) and marked up the cutting line of carcass pieces.

2w-20.jpg

Hand cut the strips and sanded them to fit diagonal block.

Then got out this box of tricks.

The lid of which is held down with 4 screws.

And when the lid is removed there is this packing below lid.

Which now reveals my stock of veneers. These veneers were a gift from LYNX a ukworkshop forum member around 6 years ago and to keep them safe I store them in this container made from an old pallet supplied with one of my machines.
Haven'T seen anything of Lynx for some years, "how are you keeping?"

Selected this veneer which I think might be Australian Red Gum?.

Gluing up veneer to diagonal blocks.

And things are a bit complicated at the moment.

I'm glad my wife doesn't visit this forum or else I would be trying to make one similar and it looks way,way beyond my capabilities.
Keep the pics. coming :D :D

Alan.

I crept back into the workshop last night around 9.30pm, I wanted to see how the veneers were getting on, (I was getting a load of slippage).

Anyway I could not resist fitting one of the diagonal blocks to a carcass side which was underway to see what the effect was going to be.

Alan, I am sure you are being very modest, have a go and we can perhaps generate more patterns between us.

Now the temperatures have returned to workable conditions in my workshop I fitted the rest of the veneered diamond blocks to carcass pieces.

BTW my make up board is becoming a bit tatty.

My waste offcuts are getting smaller these day, I suppose that's natural after making this design tissue box for nearly a year now. (over 30 boxes I reckon)

The lid pattern has been changed for this box at the suggestion of an Australian forum member, A diagonal aperture specially for you Artme.

Lid formed with each strip individually cut.

Awaiting a tidy up before attaching to carcass.

Got the lid glued on yesterday evening but prior to the glue up I had to hand carve the diamond shaped aperture because a roundover bit in the router table would not enter the angled corners.

The tissue box only just fits the inside of box, (the reason my offcuts are getting smaller mentioned above can now be seen by the closeness of this fit)

This box is nearly finished, a general clean up, wax and bottom sliding plates needed to finish.

Thanks for watching and all kind remarks.

BTW, I've thought of another pattern which I think is wicked, so see the next one?
