Hi

I have a Bosch GSS 140A palm sander, and very nice it is too until the sandpaper holder broke. I talked with Bosch who told me they will fix it but because I didn't register with them after purchase, I'm not eligible for the 3year warranty, a bit irritating but that's life. The repair could cost a fair bit and so I'm resorting to velcro backed sanding sheets.

Can anyone recommend both a type of sand paper and a good source? I'm a hobbyist so don't want to spend huge amounts but I would like stuff that works:)

Thanks

Toby

I had the exact same problem with the same model on only its second day of use, almost two-years ago to the day. Although my sander is still covered by the warranty, I've never bothered to get it fixed (I suspect it would only break again... :p). I have been happily using velcro-backed abrasive sheets instead, even though I barely use this sander, now that I own a smaller random orbit tool.

At the time, I'd already used some of Hermes' perforated 6in sanding discs for my other sander and was impressed by the fact that they seemed to outlast standard aluminium discs (particularly when used with dust extraction). You can also buy these in sheets but, as Axminster didn't seem to sell any 1/4 sheet sizes, I had to buy packs of 1/2 sheets and cut them in two myself - click here.
