Then there's wooden garden projects - here's some rough fencing timber made into a marble fence, with glass marbles inset for colour

Following on from that idea, I made a simple box out of the same rough timber - lightly sanded and lime washed. with marbles inset and a light inside

And also a sun catcher for the garden using an old section of timber plank and marbles

Finally on the marble front, I used a scrap of old ply, cut a tree shape and inserted marble 'apples'

Then I used a hot glue gun to glue battery led Christmas lights to the back

Your a clever sod! some excellent ideas and work there and love the marble ideas, when will you be inserting coloured marbles into your wooden floorboards and install a underfloor light maybe a staircase?

Thanks. I just get silly ideas then have to try them out. Trouble is, being an ex-forester/tree surgeon, my idea of subtle when woodworking is using a chainsaw!

The pyrography is a good way to train my hands and my mind for more delicate work. My basic woodworking is still a bit rough round the edges and I am in awe of some of the beautiful precision furniture etc I've seen on this site.

The pens are actually the first ones I've made, so I'm quite pleased with them. I've only had a few hours on the lathe practising with small items before I dived in to try them, so I'm learning all the time. So any tips/advice on the pen turning is gratefully received.

On the pyrography front here's a Birch log door stop I've just completed - made for a friend who is a Star Trek fan

Now a marble lit staircase......that's an idea!............. :-k

Great selection of projects !!! I like the use of the marbles, and the 'captains log' door stop is a stroke of genius ;)
