have you not thought about contacting PCL (Pneumatic Components Ltd) in Sheffield? They manufacture the tyre inflators used in an awful lot of tyre places, garages, etc so they've got to have something suitable in their range I'd say

Just a 20l senco, but it has enough FAD, the air demands are pretty small really.

As for the kit, I was going to ditch Joe's connector, and get one that fits whatever bag I buy over here. Bagpress worked out cheaper than Joe for bags.
 
The middle one - the top one needed too much air, and I can't imagine needing that much bag.
 
A couple of points on the above. I believe that the top-end Airpress models do cycle on and off to maintain vac, but they are, obviously, nore expensive.

Please don't try to drain a fridge compressor of its coolant at home. If the fridge is old (and if you are chucking it out it probably is) then it probably has ozone-depleting coolant in it. Fridges are suppoosed to be decommissioned properly in a special plant (though that doesn't mean that all are - I believe there is a Fridge Mountain somewhere), and anyway, as Scrit has pointed out, they don't work terribly well anyway.

OTOH, a vac bag opens up all sorts of new possibilities in ones woodwork.

I must admit I have a Bagress bag and connect it to the inlet of my compressor, seems to work just fine for me - but I do not do extreme curves.

Yes. Use the same glue and same technique as you would for a cycle puncture repair.
 
When looking for a vac pump at the right price, I was thinking about a vac brake pump from a commercial vehicle. Black taxis used to have one (vane pump) that was belt driven. Area to be explored further when time allows.
