Hi all,

Has anyone used DPM from builders merchant for a vacuum bag? or other suggestions for cheapish vac bag welcome.

Thanks

What about those vacuum bags used for storing clothes under the bed, I have often wondered how much clamping force they could make.
I guess any plastic would technically work if you can seal it up but some might be too thick to conform to the shape and some too thin to take the pressure.
I have some pretty thick bags for my dust extractor that might be good as well.

I seem to remember a thread by Steve Maskery covered this before. Think he used something like a poly tunnel cover as it had the advantage of being able to see what was going on inside

I understand the "ideal" (?) is 20 mil vinyl.
0.0205" thick, which is about 10% thicker than "20 gauge liner"....

The transparent vynil sold as cuts from rolls for covering tables should work, our local SuperU has it ( and patterned stuff too ) in two thicknesses.About 140 to 180 cm wide by as long as you need.I use it to make dust covers for machines, you can seal joins with heat ( heat gun ) or sew ( if you have the right machine for it as I do ) and then seal. Might be able to seal it with a portable vacuum bag sealer ( the hand held kind that Lidl do for sealing the edges of bags before they go in the freezer ) as an alternative to their machines that work by sealing both ends of a floppy tube of the stuff. Cost here is about €6.00 per metre at superU, cheaper on t'internet, but I needed some quick, lasers were in danger of getting dusty while I was removing plaster.

You could also look into transparent dust sheeting, might be thick enough for what you need. same stuff, usually vynil.
