Quite by chance, while researching BBC Canvas, I came across the fact that you can use an Xbox to act as an interface between computer and projector (I think) and, before I got all excited, wondered if (a) this was true then (b) why would you want to do this and (c) what are the results like?

Can you wi-fi an Xbox? As you may have guessed, I am a numpty when it comes to games consoles.

Cheers

Roger (not a game player)

The Macs' elsewhere in another room. Sort of haven't quite got my ideas lined up yet.. I can watch iPlayer on the Mac but would like to watch some programmes and films on a larger screen.

So need a screen and a projector....easy enough to plug the BluRay/DVD player into the projector but not so easy with anything from the digital domain.

Came across this http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/technology/2008/12/canvas_and_the_connected_home.html and saw what he was doing. Connect 360 seems to be a key bit of software.

Easy done on a PC Roger, XP Media center ar Media Player 11 will both act as a link between pc and XBox with either ethernet or WiFi. Then simply plug XBox output into projector (you will also need an amp of some description to get the audio, projector speakers will be pants).

Mac will have some software I would imagine, to act as the go between.

Edit : I am talking about the XBox 360.

Firstly which xbox.
if its the 1st one then you need to softmod you xbox then load onto it
XBMC xbox media center, which is what its known as...
dunno about the 360 i think it can be a media extender quiet easy.
i have XMBC my old xbox and have a cat5 running to the router which then reads the stuff on the pc. movies in avi etc (ripped from my dvd's) tv shows etc. pictures.
tis really good if you have an old box sat around.

XBMC.org will start you off. i have loads of links if you want more. pm me so not to clutter up the forum with links no one else will want lol
