Hi

I want to paint some large puzzle pieces with acrylic paint but am thinking that they won't then fit together properly. Does anyone know if the cut would have removed enough wood to cope with 2 coats of paint? Does that make sense?!

Hi Jimi
I suppose that it depends how thick you apply the paint,if it not too thick you may get away with it.The jigsaws that I have cut out recently have had a surround and I have only painted the top face.

I did thinks about only painting the top and bottom faces, but didn't know if it would look weird. Did you paint gesso on as a primer? I was wondering if I could get away with white emulsion.

Jimi I would cut a couple of pieces using scrap wood, then prime the wood then paint and see if the pieces fit.The edges should absorb some of the paint,I would think.

I make quite a few jigsaws and I only ever paint the front. If you really do want to paint the sides use a number 7 blade to cut the pieces, otherwise a number 5 is the norm.

Thanks for the replies. I'm just waiting for the acrylic paints to arrive. Then I'll do some tester pieces. I think I'll paint just the top and bottom, and leave the edges, unless they soak up paint.
