Hi

I've seen a very hard to get hold of fine kerf blade but the arbor is 5/8".

I haven't got a tablesaw yet but will do shortly, thinking about a Bosch GTS10XC which takes a 30mm.

Do you think I'll have trouble fitting this to a Bosch or Axminster UK type table saw?

Cheers

If the fine kerf is less that the thickness of the riving knife on your saw you will have a different problem.

If you can't get your preferred blade with the right arbor bore, get the blade to a Saw Doctor and have it resized to suit.
Mine did some 165mm blades for my DeWalt cordless saw from 10 to 20mm for a few quid.
I add, I wouldn't try it myself .

The outside edge has an extreme fine kerf. I've been trying to find one like this in UK but to no luck.
I'd guess you'd be using that blade with some kind of custom cross-cut sled so the riving knife is not such an issue.
Bear in mind that Bosch saw you mention has a brush motor and is very noisy, you might be happier with a much quieter induction motor saw such as the TS-200/TS-250.

Such inserts work fine. Just check that the insert is thinner than the body (not the kerf) of the blade you are using or it won't clamp. I have two inserts, one for thicker and one for thinner blades on my Wadkin (which has a 5/8" spindle).

i have that saw & also an Itech 10" saw which the same as the AW10 etc... the Bosch is only marginally louder, its not a screaming loud saw like everyone on here (who doesn't own one) makes out.... if anything id describe it as a quiet saw & the best saw IMO you can buy for that money.

I must admit as I'm new to this, had no idea what a riving knife is, had just looked it up on wiki.

I'd only be using this blade for very shallow maybe 4mm deep slots in a guitar fretboard. It's good to know there's these insert adaptors available.

Like the look of that iTech saw.

Thanks for your help guys, think I'll take a punt on this saw blade.

Can you confirm for me.
The blade you want to buy/use has a 5/8 bore and the saw has a 30mm arbor??
I've have reduction rings in some of my blades, but wasn't aware of a converter going the other way.

Yeah you've got that right.

I've got confused, it's not gonna work is it!?

Basically if I want to use this saw blade I need a table saw that has a small 5/8 fitting.

Is a 30mm arbor standard for most UK table saws?

No. From that blade you've linked too and the saw you've mentioned getting, the blade won't fit.
To be honest I really don't know. Some of the Clarke saws had a 5/8 arbor and an Erbauer I had used 30mm bore blades.
You could do as I said earlier, get the bore altered on that blade you're considering.

Older table saws such as the Wadkin often had 5/8 arbors - mine does.

Riving knife is irrelevant. If you tried to do rip cuts with this blade, it would jam after it was designed for.a few mm when it reached the thicker part of the blade. As you say it is only for shallow cross cuts, i.e. the job it was designed for.

A good quality saw would be useful though, to make the cuts accurate for the guitar frets.

Thanks guys. After doing a bit more research I've bought the blade, it was on Ebay for £60. You can get it for $99 but time you pay the shipping/import etc cost silly money.

Tell you what, if someone in UK made a fine kerf 0.6mm blade they'd make a lot of money selling it to luthiers. There's just nobody even in Europe selling this type of stuff.

Looking into that Bosch GTS 10XC table saw I fancy, apparently it has a 5/8" spindle with an inner washer having a 30mm shoulder. So I'm hoping it'll fit without any modification.

Sounds like good news, just make sure when you mount the blade it is safe and secure.
Do not take any risks with this, you will not be fast enough to outrun a spinning blade
