Finished with sanding sealer and Briwax.

Could I use friction polish on the becnh drill. max rpm 2500?

Cheers

Just don't wrap the cloth/whatever around your fingers whilst polishing dedee.

You could fix the pillar drill on it's side and call it a lathe

Normal shelac will friction melt at much lower speeds at that diameter by the way.

Cheat :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

Seriously I can't help thinking that it is a really good example of what can be achieved with a bit of ingenuity. We often get people on here asking what can be done without a chuck or other desperately needed accessories and forget that with thought and skill our predecessors did well enough with very limited tools. Perhaps sometimes we rely too much on our modern innovations and forget that not much more than a hundred years ago people were turning incredibly beautiful things without electricity.

Ingenious perhaps but that large hole cutter left very rough saw marks on the wood that required a lot of sanding out. All that lateral pressure on the chuck can't be doing it much good, but it was fun.

Forgot to mention that there is a piece of 6mm dowel plugging the hole just in case the candle leaks.
