Hi guys,

I have a piece of burr/burl timber in a sort of conical shape. I would like to turn it into a jewellery box, however, I’m not the most experienced person at bowls (Never turned one!).
I have a couple of faceplates (around a 9” and 12”?) and the Robert Sorby Patriot Chuck that comes with the 2” jaws, 3 ½” Jaws and the Patriot Bowl Reversing Jaws.
How would you advise I begin to turn this?
I was intending to roughly find the centre of it (on the flat face of it) and screw one of the faceplates to it. Once I had that turned to my desired shape – about 3 – 3.5 inches deep, I would then possibly turn it up and hollow it out with a router. As I am not sure how to mount it back on the lathe to hollow it out.
Do any of you more experienced guys see a simpler procedure to do this?

Many thanks!
