I picked up a fire surround from a customer last night to repair. It was a new purchase and he managed to topple it over while fitting it and it hit the wall and put a dent in it. it had broken the fibres of the wood so steaming it was out of the question. (In my haste I forgot to take a shot of the damage but it was about the size of a thumb nail.
It was right on the top edge of the mantle and I selected a nice piece of Oak to match it and routed out the ding with a template.
After routing out a piece of the spare oak it was a perfect fit and match for the repair. I was well pleased with the repair after a bit of sanding and a light wax. Can you tell where it was?
