£185 isn't bad, considering that my local B&Q are selling them £250.

If thats the case then I might as well buy it from there.

Cheers George

Mike

Just to add that a couple of used TRB001s have sold on Ebay this weekend for £105 each + £15 P&P which is cheaper still but they are used and obviously you get no warranty.

Reading through this (as it has been bumped) reminded me of the other thing (brass nut aside) that really annoys me about the T11 - of which I own 2, so you can see that I do like them.

The dust spout is:
Exposed
Fragile
Right in the way when laying the router down to change bits
F*****g expensive to replace.

The last time I ordered a batch from my local stockist, even he doubted the price, and double checked with Trend. As this is an important piece of safety equipment as far as I am concerned I keep replacing them. However I will be looking elsewhere for my next router purchase.

Why do so few routers have up-the-column dust extraction? It seems such a good idea to me.

Anyway, rant over. Back to work.

Hi Mike

Glad to see your went for the triton, i'm a recent triton convert, and actually took a lot of information from this very thread before making my purchase. I bought the smaller one the MOF001 and have been extremely pleased with my purchase, in fact I would say that it's the most impressive tool i've purcahsed including my festool - but then i've only used el-cheapo routers so it was a real jump in quality from my point of view.

I take it your going ahead and building your own table?

Hi Byron,

How could I go for anything else after listening to other owners in this thread. Funnily enough it was your thread about Triton Tools that really sealed it.

[/quote]Byron,

I am still hunting down the parts but yes I am going to build my own.

Hopefully it will be with me tomorrow so I will let you know how I get on.

EDIT SSSS--------TTTT I messed that quote up

Mike

what are you using for the mounting plate? I noticed that you were looking into the axminster one (as I have been) but was a bit nervous about the 'crowning' of it..

Yeah I am worried about that so I am thinking about getting this one now

Tim had one and it seems to solve the problem. Either that or get a flat bit of phenolic and make my own.

Cheers for that mike, noticed that he doesn't have a price listed, do your or anyone else know what price the inserts go for?

The woodpecker aluminium one goes for £55 from woodworker workshop

In the last couple of days I've been in touch with Roger and he also recommended the incra magna Lock plate it's more expensive than the woodpecker one at £72.85 but it is meant to be alot better ...... have a look at the videos on the incra website http://www.incra.biz

I like the look of this one.......... but then I'm quick taken with a lot of the incra gear and I'll be ordering my first bit tomorrow ..... going for a 1000se mitre gauge for an experiment to see if I can use it with my EZ rail system........

i have been busily using my rousseau plate and cant see any issues with the crowning the lead out is flat anyway. i agree it would be better being flat (wouldnt everything) but failing that it is a superb and high quality item. the ally insert is obviously beautifully made but at a beautiful price!!!

Just got the Triton about an hour ago so I have not had a chance to use it yet but I must say that it looks very impressive.

I love the idea of the front and rear chip shields which should help with dust extraction, and I suspect that this can be made even better by getting one of the Triton Dust Collectors which apparently collects dust from both above and below the table.
As I have said I have not used it yet so I may be wrong but I think I am going to get on fine with this router because they seem to have thought of everything.

I will let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Mike

How did you all get on attaching the router to the various plates?

I have been too busy on a job to set mine up yet but I have noticed that the only obvious screw fittings to fit the TRB001 to a non Triton plate are the 4 short UNC screws which hold the plastic shoe on. The ones provided are too short IMO to be of any use as connectors and 1/4" unc screws are not exactly common.

Am I missing a trick here or does everyone have longer UNC screws lying about their workshops?

Cheers

Add to that, the cable makes it impossible to stand the router on its head for bit changing (hence the broken dust spout). All these flaws were on the original 177E, and Trend did a great job of redesigning the base for rise & fall, and completely ignored these other, frankly more important, shortcomings.

Totally agree - a real opportunity missed.

Hi Nick W,

I agree the dust spout can be damaged if leaned on whilst changing cutters, our R&D team are constantly looking at ways to improve the design of our products, your comments will be passed on,

Regarding up the column dust extraction, the answer is simple, the idea is patented and has only been used under licence by one other manufacturer to my knowledge ,

Andy,

Thanks for the response, I should have said that it can also get broken if the hose attached to it snags and gives a little tug.

It's a pain about the patent, but if any maker were to produce a 1/2" router with UTCDE, I for one would be willing to pay the extra - with the cost of replacement spouts it would probably work out as a saving in the very short term.

Glad to hear that customers' views are taken into account. Pity about the hollow column idea...

It wouldn't be so bad if you could stand the router on its head for cutterchanging, but you can't, the cable gets in the way (unless you have it perilously close to the edge of the bench), so you have to have it on its side, and the only side you can get the spanner in is the one opposite the spout. Therefore...

It's a great pity, because so much of the rest of it is so very very good.

One more point, which perhaps you could answer. Why are so many routers (and this is true of my DW625 as well, and many others, I know) made with the cutter so far away from being concentric with the circular base? We are not talking a few thou here, sometimes it's a millimetre or more. It means you cannot rely on the edge of the base for a constant offset to a straight line, for example. My ancient Elu 117E is spot on, so I would have thought that the production problems had been ironed out years ago. It doesn't seem to me to be much to ask :?
