Just got a B&Q Triton router to replace Trend T5 in a 5 yr old 2000 workcentre with horrible clamp fittings to attach router.Considered looking for "the UNC screws" to attach directly but wanted to be able to remove the router quickly when required.Spoke to David at Woodworking centre in Northamptonshire 01604 494549 (no connection),very helpful and knowledgeable they suggested the router table upgrade RTA423 13.37 plus 5.45 carriage plus vat = 22.11. It arrived next morning amazing service. This provides a secondary plate which is bolted under the existing router plate with keyhole slots allowing you to utilise the two spring loaded attachent bolts present in the router baseplate,no missing screws just press twist and tighten. You probably lose 5mm depth of plunge but the Triton is good in this respect anyway. It also comes with four clamps to attach non triton routers,(I now have a small collection of various styles of these)

What are people using for template guides? the triton kit is quite expensive, they don't say if the templates are metric or imperial and the 30mm guide alone for kitchen worktop jig is a further 10.00 pounds.Trend make a plate specifically for the triton still expensive but guides are cheaper I think,(the unibase doesn'fit}.I also considered filing keyhole slots in the black plate that you can use for overhead trenching but it didn't seem to have much room without weakening it although I tried fitting the plate supplied and it would do the job, just appeared a little skewed.
Any hints/tips welcome
Thanks charleydavidson

David Ashworth was with Triton for many years. I did a router demo at his shop at the end of November and found him very easy to get on with. I'm glad he was able to help you.

The Triton Template Guide Kit (TGA001 - see here) contains Imperial bushes.

The Trend GB/5 base fits the Triton TRA001. It's a little over £20, I think. This would enable you to use the whole Trend range of guidebushes if you so wished. However, don't forget that the centralising plate in the Triton kit (Alignment Bush "I" in the link above) takes all Porter-Cable bushes and also the Leigh Variable Guide Bush series (for use on their Dovetail Jig).
Hope some of that helps. :)

Ray.

Thanks for the info Argee I had looked at the link when you posted previously to another question but hadn't picked up the fact that the alignment plate was also a porter cable adapter. You give lots of good information on this site which is extremely useful to novices like me and in fact the info on your website encouraged me to atempt to refit my kitchen (particularly the kitchen worktop jig info) , thanks.
Are you doing the Triton Demo at Woodworking Centre on the 21st of Feb
or at Aly Paly i'm hoping to attend.

I don't know, as yet, about Sywell, but I doubt I'll be at the Ally Pally - we weren't there last year and I'll be fresh off the 'plane anyway. :)

Charley,

Did you get my PM ? Not sure if I've done it right

cheers

I've fitted a Trend guide bush to the little Triton router (the mythical B&Q one is the big one, isn't it?) without having to buy a unibase or any other adapter. Got it attached and centred without any trouble and then used it extensively on the Trend dovetail jig without any problems. Can't remember how many mm of guide bush was protruding from the black router base, but it was sufficient to work with.

Thanks rjrl101, even though the bushes are identical for large and small tritons the method of attachment is different ,the small ones attach to the base casting but the large triton attaches to a plate sandwiched between the baseplate and the black plastic sole plate.Argees helpul link to the pdf in a previous posting shows this.Glad youve had success with the small triton.

I'm always surprised that Triton use imperial size guide bushes and imperial thread screws for the baseplate too, as Australia has embraced metrication much more than we have. The scales on my Workcenter are metric though.
