I have had the Triton drill for about a year now.
I have found it to be very capable, it does everything Triton say it does.
It is very powerful with good battery life, the chuck and shaft lock are particularly good and make it easy to use.
Strangely, I have not used the plunge mechanism or depth stop as much as I thought I would and have not used the accessories at all.

Down side is the weight, it it quite a beast and also the torque collar is quite stiff, but other than those two observations I am very happy with it.

Martin.

That's great, I really like the look of it and think that for my needs the plunge bar will be invaluable...

Think i may have to take the plunge (pun entirely intended!) 8)

I don't think you will be disappointed.

I suggest, if you can, check the weight (with the battery fitted) and also how easy it is to turn the torque collar before you buy.

If you do go ahead and purchase I would be interested to hear if the torque collar on yours is stiff.

Martin.

The weight stated on the website is 3kg which compares to 2.6kg of the equivalent DeWalt model.

Am buying it online direct from Triton ,as i cannot seem to find any other stockist, so will not be able to have a play before i buy it.

Yes, finding someone who has them in stock is a problem, I tried it out at an exhibition but did not play with the torque collar.

Again, don't think you will be disappointed, if you go ahead please update this post with your thoughts once you have it.

Martin.

Has anyone used the Triton drill before?

I have just seen the video on their website and it does look very impressive.

Only £99 now too...

I don't think that's a special sale price. I bought it from there for £99 back in the spring and have used it regularly a bit since.

  • - Carry strap is really useful when you're up a ladder.
    - I am happy with the battery life although the discharge profile has changed somewhat since new. At new the battery had bags of power up until the point it suddenly died. Now it has a longer and more noticable decay in power.
    - Awesome quantities of torque and speed available for screwing! Can't believe I used to spend so much time and effort putting screws in by hand.
    - Supplied screw bits appear to be made of cheese.
    - Wish the LED was angled towards the drill bit. It very nicely lights up the area adjacent to where you want to drill, but is less effective at illuminating where the drill bit's going to go.
    - LED switch failed for a week before recovering all on its own. The LED was on regardless of the switch position during this. Think I must have got a metal shaving stuck in it.
    - Keep turning the LED on accidentally. Wish it had a rocker switch.
    - Plunge bars are very handy for people like me who are otherwise unable to hold a drill perpendicular to the drilling surface. However there is some play in the plunge bars so don't think they're a substitute for a pillar drill.
    - Depth stop a bit fiddly but holding together so far. I thought the metal would have sheared in it by now but it's still working.
    - Rubber ring on the plunge-base-ring-bit marks paintwork. Cover it with masking tape if you're worried about spoiling a finished surface.
    - Fence - no problems, works OK.
    - Pipe drilling thingy. Not used.
    - Hammer function. Can't match the mains electric drill but it has a good try.
    - Torque ring is stiff, but not objectionaly so on my model. Personally I think it turns OK and still feels the same as when new too.
    - Weight isn't a problem in normal use, although I do feel it when working at awquard angles or in tight spots.

The list above might come across as rather negative, but I don't regret my purchase. I'm very pleased with it and would probably buy it again if I ever needed another drill.

I have now taken ownership of my new Trition Driller.

I have been excited all weekend knowing that on Monday I would take ownership of my brand new power tool. When that knock on the door finally came this afternoon my mood immediately turned to scepticism when i saw the printed words "Made in China" on the box. I want my power tools made in England, Germany, Italy or Switzerland. The only thing I want made in China is egg fried rice.

However I needn't of worried. I opened the box to find a huge powerful beast just waiting to jump out of its blow molded case and rip some holes in some walls. The machine is reassuringly heavy and has a feel of quality that you would expect from the brand.

The power that this machine can generate is unbelievable. It's amazing. Raw unadulterated power. As previous people had reported the torque ring is stiff but not obstructively so.

I briefly tested out the plunge mechanism which I thought was very good. I has a very slight amount of play in it but not some much that it's noticeable.

In short... It meets all you expectations of the brand and far exceeds those of the price

Did it come with the accessories shown in the video such as the fence the guy used when drilling a cabinet carcase or the guide the bloke used when drilling the pipe?

This is how they come, Tony, fence and pipe attachments store in the lid:

There's more pics, etc. about halfway down this page if that helps. :)

Thanks Ray, that's just what I needed to know before ordering one

:? How long will they be available? The guys on Ubeaut are saying it is discontinued

Regards Tom

P.S Had the 2000 up and running by 12.30 Martin :)
