Wheels will definitely increase the performance. Also, substitute apples for the tennisball. Apples create great amusement when they explode on impact.

just seen this. I helped build a perrier [hand powered catapult, similar to a trebuchet] for the Tower of London.
What can I say, DO IT! this was such a blast that the guys I worked for want to build their own just for mucking around with.
On a more detailed note the arm was made from ash and frame from oak. As this was supposed to have an air of authenticity the iron work was all forged but you could just strap it up with whatever
