Tool shopping.

Are there any other places like Axminster Tools?

I find it really difficult to find similar places.

There are the likes of Toolstation and Screwfix but they are mostly the cheap and nasty end of the market.

I come across a couple of sites which sell some bits but then you have to go to another site to get the other bits.

Then there are some sites which only seem to cater for site joinery with the odd speciality tool for sale.

It seems to me like Axminster are the only ones that cover almost all tools and equipment.

I do hope someone can prove me wrong and show me that there are more out there hiding.

I also hope that this makes sense to y'all and doesn't come across as the ramblings of a mad man.

Go to a yandles show - twice a year AFAIK to get all the stuff from the shop, manufacturers stalls in the marquees and demos
and you can buy wood too....

I think it depends what you're after. Axminster are a good 'one-stop shop', but the smaller specialists are better in their own niches, for me. Two of my favourites are Classic Hand Tools and Workshop Heaven, though a browse does feel a bit like viewing porn. All those gorgeous tools I couldn't possibly afford (or justify!). Then there's the secondhand dealers....

There are dozens of OK dealers - if you google a make and model you can often bring up lots of alternative sources.

Well a couple of things bother me.

I'm very impatient. When I decide I want something, I want it 5 minutes ago.
I'm very tight. I don't like paying £5+ for shipping from each site.

I also like to see and touch things before I buy them.

With Axminster having physical shops, I can do that.

And like C.C says,, they are a one-stop-shop. But they seem to be the only one.

Thanks for the links. Some I've seen and others are new to me.

I shall bookmark them all for future shopping.

And your right, workshop heaven is like porn.

Axi are not the only specialist tool shop, but they don't have a branch in Worcestershire.
A quick look at the listing of tool shops on this site led me to Alltools in Worcester who seem to be what you need.

If you are after good quality woodworking tools and machines then Rutlands have a very good range. In fact I think you would be hard pressed to find a better range available by mail order here in the UK. They stock some brilliant and very useful stuff - usually Amercian made, where all the best tools and all the best wood comes from.

AndyT - I've had a look through the list. I saw it a while ago but forgot all about it.
Alltools is a site I would class as aimed at site joinery... Not a bottle of Titebond in sight.
As a courier I travel the country so it doesn't have to be based in Worcestershire.

I like browsing the Rutlands catalogue but find them pretty expensive although their range of hand tools is quite impressive.

I've just ordered a diamond stone from powertoolworld. Never used them before but they were £30 cheaper than most places for the same trend stone.

You are more than welcome to our tool shop open day at the end of the month with discounts on the day (and not far from you in Worcestershire), sorry I can not claim to be a one stop shop like Axi but we do carry Titebond, can get all things under the Brimarc brand and carry a fair range of quality specialist woodworking tools.
