Hi all. I am planning to build a tool sharpening station for my workshop. I have a Tormek T-3 Water Cooled Sharpening System and the usual array of sharpening stones etc. I want this to sit on a cabinet with drawers and a cupboard underneath to store various bits and pieces, I also plan to store my sandpapers here, sheets and rolls. The whole thing will be on castors so that I can pull it into the middle of the workshop and have 360 degree access around the worktop/suface.

I do have a good idea of what I want to do, but does anyone have any plans for something like this and would you have any advice before I start. I don't want to finish it then wish I had done something else.

Any tips and advice are welcome.

Thanks, Dave

I would make the top surface with two levels. I have my sharpening stones on the same level as my Tormek but usually stand on something when using the Tormek as I find it too high.

Cheers

I am no expert with Sketchup, in fact it's my first time using it. But does this idea look like it would do the tirck ?

Norm did one incorporating an engineering vice etc and I think it had a holder for paper towels.
A search on the NYW website should turn up a picture although plans will cost you a few quid from Rutlands.

I think it's quite difficult to comment on your sketch because we don't know how much stuff you are trying to fit on the top of the work station. I would think that if you will be using water stones for honing, together with all the stuff for keeping them wet and flat, your requirements will be quite different from what they would be if you will be using, say, oil stones. Have you tried laying out the equipment and seeing how much space it takes up? A photograph or two might help.

Just a thought - if you plan to wheel it out to the centre of your shop and be able to work around it, a power lead for the Tormek, suspended from the ceiling, would ensure you don't trip over it.

Cheers
