Can't seem to get motivated in the workshop after acquiring these two...

So that's 4 sheep, 20-something chickens and 2 piglets... so far.

Currently, they believe they are 'pets', but time will tell. ;-)

They've ripped up that stock-fence once already, now it's staked down every 18''. When they get the free roam of the field, I'll stick a couple of rows of electric tape round it.

Unringed? Mine used to lift a five bar gate off its hinges - they learn quickly.

No rings ... They won't lift any of my gates off (one hinge pointing up, one hinge pointing down).

... Kunekune pigs are primarily grazers, and will only rip up land if it's wet.

... We were going to call one of them 'sausage'.

... We sit in there with them a lot, they like belly rubs. :-D

We fancied getting some piggies, but decided it would be too much work because we had horses to look after plus full time jobs. Now we are both retired, the horses have gone, Mr Fox has finished off all our chickens, the dexter cattle are gone - but I still don't fancy any extra work so the fields are rented out. Makes life easy. So, no pigs.

Over 30 years ago I moved from the BIG city to somerset. I worked with an old boy farmer.
he said to me" NEVER turn your back to a pig" He said they were more dangerous than a bull cow because they were sly as well as smart.

true story, and since then I have never turned my back to a pig sandwich.

Aren't the ones with ears over the eyes the friendlier breeds ?

Sunnybob isn't wrong think this was mentioned in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Edit no it was "Snatch".

I'm sure it happened recenty in the UK but I can't find the story.

Just don't give them guns! (or jet packs)

It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum .... and I'm all 'outa' gum

mmmmmmmmmmmmm,
do all the pigs in UK have fur like that? or only some special breed which can live outside? can they live outside in winter as well with that fur?

I have had some pigs as well, I loved growing them..but.. I just couldn't make myself to kill them after I had grown them, fed them and spent time with them :(

They are Kunekune pigs, a hairy breed from New Zealand.

Interesting fact - By the 1980s, only an estimated 50 purebred kunekune remained. Two wildlife-park owners started a breeding recovery program, which in turn encouraged other recovery efforts. As of 2010, the breed no longer faces extinction, with breed societies in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom. In 1993 two were imported into the United States from the UK.

OMG those sausages will be lovely! All sweet and swedey

SWMBO wants pigs if we ever manage to sell 2 houses and buy 1 together (with a bit of ground), thanks for the breed info. Looks fun.

Cheers,

Andrew
