I listen to all these folks saying the world is warming & the ice caps are melting & how all low lying lands will be flooded then I read articles like this https://eos.org/science-updates/new-perspectives-on-the-enigma-of-expanding-antarctic-sea-ice with the supposed experts baffled because it doesn’t fit their models. Add to that that the artic was warmer in the 1920-40s than it is today & it does start to make me question what is being said.

It also makes me question why our government can keep charging us more & more green tax but then send ministers to China to encourage more trade, the same country who in the last 5 years have commissioned 226 new coal fired power stations & in 2023 alone bought $6.36 billion worth of coal from Australia, another country who are shutting all their coal fired power stations & charging the populous more & more green tax.
Is it only me who sees the irony?
Interesting link. It clearly shows a very slight increase in the maximum extent but a much greater trend down in the minimum. Note the max graph axis is truncated from 15 up rather than from zero expanding the scale as the trend would other wise be to slight to easily see. Not criticizing the science but it shows how easy it is to take an opinion based on one fact and miss the complete picture. It does point to some weaknesses in current models which are unsurprisingly under continuous development eg

It can't be denied that China burns a lot of coal but this from Wikipedia might be surprising to some with China and the USA top ranking in renewables, things change quickly and it's easy to get left behind.

As to sense in government policy I have unquestioning faith in this along with collective human intelligence and unicorns

Sea ice is floating ice. It's what you get when land ice starts slipping off as it warms up and glaciers speed up.
Increased spread does not alter that the poles are warming and melting.

More sea ice can still mean less ice overall, bearing in mind that land ice in Antarctica can be nearly 5km thick
I haven't read the article but it's perfectly normal for scientists to be confused
and contradicted - just have to wait and see what their researches turn up!
It's right to ask questions - it's wrong to imagine that if you can't get the answers then the science must be wrong.

No you are not alone, everybody knows that there are anomalies all over the place and states working at different levels, or even not at all.
That's why they keep having COP meetings and the whole issue is under discussion around the globe, from top levels of govt and science, even down to woodwork forums - and a good thing too!
Chinese made a great leap in industrialisation to catch up with the west, hence the coal etc. They are also investing heavily in green technology and are expected to be world leaders in a short while, ahead of the rest of the world. nb their per capita Carbon footprint is still lower than USA and other western nations.
Re green taxes - they are far too low, govts should have been cranking them up from a long way back, to reinvest in green energy and also to force us to start adapting.

China are top in the production of renewable energy but when looked at per capita Canada are way out in front from followed by Germany & the USA. China are only on a par with the UK.

Other reports on Antarctic ice from the same site https://eos.org/research-spotlights/warm-seawater-encroaches-on-major-antarctic-ice-shelf
and elswhere https://www.bas.ac.uk/media/beyondt...as-an-exceptional-year-for-antarctic-sea-ice/
It is confusing, without a doubt!
More about the ice https://www.climate.gov/news-featur...nderstanding-climate-antarctic-sea-ice-extent winter extent increasing but in summer much reduced

in the 70`s they said we would be having an ice age now.
No they did not.
There was a vague hypothesis (amongst many) that melting polar ice might send sea ice into lower latitudes and have a cooling effect on weather, with more snow and greater albedo effect (reflecting heat back into space).
But it was just a guess and a forlorn hope that global heating might regulate itself naturally. Nothing came of it.
Science works like that - have an idea (hypothesis) about phenomena, see if there's evidence, put it to the test, construct a theory if it fits, forget it if it doesn't.
PS just googled. AI puts it's finger on it! https://www.google.com/search?q=did...EwOTU5ajBqNKgCALACAQ&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
You can google things yourself you know, you don't have to be always wrong! :ROFLMAO:

Well, why not enjoy the day? All in all , it wasn't too bad. And the sun shone for a while. Why not then be thankful for the good things that we can enjoy. Life is about being in the present. The past is gone and the future - whatever it will be - is yet to happen.

Not quite on par with us we hit about 46%

Someone said it, even if it was the mostly media.
