Bangles.

I got a few large slabs of jarrah burr recently, so have been sawing them up to make these, and a few small boxes from the remainder. They're chunky, but the detail on the burr is lovely. There are also a few very large whole burrs, but they're much too unbalanced to go on the lathe.

Any comments welcome

Hi

Click on all sizes just above the image. Then click on the size of the image you wish to post (normally medium). Next grab the photos url from under the image and post as you did before.
Nice bangles.

By the carving do you mean the oak and walnut bowls? if so my partner does it, she's a glass engraver - and it's actually sandblasted.

Pete (faePerth) love the grain... very much enjoyed looking through your photostream especially the views !

What are they? They look a little like bangles to me. A little ethnic in style.

i'm not being funny soulfly but have you got any pics of your own work to show us - I for one would love to see if your work is indeed magnificent in concept, form, interpretation and execution and without error or possible criticism..... or whether you just like to put other people's work down for the heck of it

they indeed are bangles - deliberately chunky to show off as much of the burr as possible.

they look good to me pete - perhaps a little too wide for some tastes but i know there is a market for that design in some quarters - jarrah burr isnt exactly native so i can't see any reason not to go little ethnic with your design.

did you core out the centres ? if so have you thought of doing matching pendants in a similar style ? (and possibly earings if there are any off cuts left)

Very nice Pete... I must say, I fancy having a go at a bangle or two myself - I have a daughter who has asked me to try it...
If I recall, Cornucopia did a really informative thread as almost a 'step-by-step guide to show how its done, with pics etc...
Seeing yours there has made me determined to give it a go.

And for me ( albeit a very much 'untrained eye' ) - the type of wood absolutely lends itself to looking a little 'ethnic' in the finished article ... one could easily envisage wooden jewellry like this, having being fashioned by Aboriginies in the outback or by the Massai Mara or similar.
( I don't know where the wood originates.. so we'll suggest at least two different continents as ethnic options ! )
Nice work. Love it.. keep it coming. :D

Very nice wood, and very nice bangles !
I can picture very nice beads for necklaces out of the same to match.

I'm glad that Soulfly has had it comfirmed that they were Bangles. For a while there I thought they were Bottomless Bowls Jeez it's so easy to make mistakes.
Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Or so I've been told

You beat me to it big soft moose :) ,
I think the term "TROLL" applies to Mr R.Soul fly..........

From Wikipedia,

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

If you check soulfly's posts you'll see that some positive contributions have been made...
