Hi

No, I'm not talking about the sausage/yorkshire puddingy yummy stuff!

We've had a load of building and refurbishment work going on now for 11 months including the removal of an internal wall leaving a gap between two lots of oak parquet flooring. One of the bits of oak under the end of one of the old radiators was loose and thinner than the rest and beneath it was the cut off end of the original 1 inch iron water pipe - not used since the 70's when a full microbore heating system was put in. It was all completely dry and dusty and filled with little bits of rubble. As a perverse individual I had a feel in the end of the pipe and was surprised to feel a lump of soft rubber which I extricated without too much trouble. I was a bit taken aback when the 'rubber' sort of unfolded into a small toad, very much alive! I had to take it show SWMBO by which time it was fully awake and proceeded to jump onto her computer. Of course, the batteries in the camera were dead so I couldn't get a picture.

I'm intrigued as to how it got there and how it survived - as I said it was a dusty and dry pipe end blocked by the bit of wood. The other end of the pipe (in the old kitchen) was cemented under quarry tiles back in the 70's.

Has anyone else come across other intriguing uninvited house guests?
